So I have like a billion things I've been trying to post and I've gotten tangled up and bogged down in all of them. So lets just get them out of the way in a rapid fire fashion so i get get on with my internet life.

---

This (http://www.theatlantic.com/personal/archive/2010/06/the-anatomy-of-a-slur/57829/) is how you do it if you're called out on Fail. Also check out the comments for responses to idiots who refuse to see why they should alter their language (disclaimer: I haven't read the comments since the week that was posted, no guarantee they won't start to be crap. Also, WS is now a commenter on the site).

Have I mentioned I love Ta-nehisi Coates? Cause I do.

---

I'm giving up on everything that I don't find interesting in the first few minutes unless there is a super strong recommendation to keep going. From people I trust. Who will buy me booze. And let me slug them if I think I wasted my time.

FF XIII? No way am I wading through hours until it opens up (http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2010/4/14/). Dhalgren? I didn't care about anyone that was introduced in the first 50 pages and so felt no curiosity to find out what happened.

This doesn't mean I hate this things or think you're wrong for liking them, please don't take it that way. This is just me turning into a crotchety old man. I used to slog though any book and spend house grinding through crap rpgs, but I just don't have time in my days anymore.

Would anyone be interested if I start writing about interpretations of the Count of Monte Cristo? (no pointing at this as a refutation of my complaint about things that don't get interesting for a while - you KNOW Dumas is going to deliver by the end). I finally purchased the Gankutsuou anime and am ready for a rewatch, I liked the Gerard Depardieu version, and there are about a hundred other versions I could watch and see how they ranked against the original. Alas, my French is too shitty to have read the novel out of translation.

Ranking against the original is a little strong phrasing. I'm actually quite fond of adaptations when changing media. I liked the starting place Gankutsuou chose (though by the point of the duel it had fucked over everything I thought was important about the story) and I like the French series' alterations to the character of Bertuccio.

Ok, this looks enough like a post to quit for now.
