Saw Ed in the kitty ER. He's actually looking pretty good, much better than the dire things I was imagining as I flew home. His condition is still a mystery, of course, but i think some of the lab reports i brought (from previous mysterious ailments) will help the vets figure it out. At least the vet I was talking too was excited to have it. They're also getting his records from the regular clinic tomorrow, as well as having specialists look at him.

I ended up writing a ton of stuff on the plane, as I kept trying to find a way to either distract myself from how I was feeling or to move it from me to the page instead. I think some of it is worth posting, if only because I don't usually display anything that raw.

Now to try and get at least a few hours of sleep before I wake up and call the vets again. hopefully the cats will let me. Between being lonely and ticked most of the carpet is damp with cleaner I doubt they will.

Authorized the ER vet to run more te$ts to figure out what the hell is up. However, if his blood cell count remains ok (indicating he isn't still bleeding in ways we can't see, like he's swallowing it or something) we can take him home tonight. Also, turns out our old vet isn't 100% retired yet and will be in the clinic Thursday or Friday and we have been informed they will make time for Ed whenever we can bring him in. The only down side to him coming home is that I'm worried he'll start bleeding again and we won't see for hours. Maybe wrdnrd and I can work in shifts.

SeƱor Stripe is back home! As much as the ER vet wants a follow up, hopefully we'll be dealing with the regular vet from now on. I appreciate the ER services a lot, but seriously, why wouldn't I prefer to work with the guy who's been regularly saving this idiot's life for the last 6 years? Our regular place is closed tomorrow, but wrdnrd and I will be staying home to keep an eye on him. Thursday the vet has another emergency patient in the morning, but they'll still find a way to fit Ed in (because they are awesome and the receptionist loves Ed).

Anyway, Ed seems to be doing fine. His last nosebleed was at 6am and was minor. The various things seen on x-ray and ultrasound in his lungs were not cancer (of course it's a bizarre thing in keeping with Ed's tendencies: a hole in his diaphragm that allows fat into his lung). He's eaten a bit, had a healthy amount to drink, and used his litter. That covers most of the items on the vet's checklist of things to watch out for.

Now we just have to keep the other cats from starting shit with him for a while. They don't like him because he smells funny right now and we were specifically instructed to keep him away from them so that any unhealed parts in his nose don't get aggravated.

Thanks for everyone's sympathy. Here's hoping this turns out to be another one of Ed's oddities that, while appearing frightening, results in treatment with some generic drugs and then he's fine. Until the next time at least.
